E. Nesbit (1858–1924), born Edith Nesbit, was an English writer and poet. She wrote stories that bring ordinary children into extraordinary adventures, including The Story of the Treasure Seekers, Five Children and It and The Railway Children.
Her family lived at Well Hall in Eltham, where she welcomed writers and other friends. Nesbit was also a co-founder of the Fabian Society.
