Robert Louis Stevenson (1850–1894) was a Scottish novelist, essayist and poet born in Edinburgh. His adventure novel Treasure Island grew from an imaginary map he drew in 1881. He also wrote Kidnapped and Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and spent his final years in Samoa.
